October Break in Switzerland

This October vacation wasn't where we were supposed to be, but honestly it turned out fantastic. We had tickets to go to Mallorca, but with the quarantine rules we couldn't go or we would risk not getting paid for missed days of work upon return. Instead we last minute decided to go to Grächen in the canton of Valais. It was perfect. A small mountain town that had just closed for their Autumn break, which meant limited tourists (perfect for avoiding crowds) and a quiet apartment rental where we could really appreciate the beauty around us. I didn't realise how much I needed to get a way from the city and noise and this place was perfect for it. On top of it, we were able to go to Zermatt to see the town and take a cable car to another little village for a hike and see the Matterhorn (Toblerone mountain). This is something most tourists do , but 12 years later, almost 13, and I still hadn't visited this area. I am so glad we did. The girls got new hiking shoes and we were able to walk one day in Grächen and one day around Zermatt. I would definitely do it all again. The only downside is that on our first day, after our first meal, Emilie was playing at a little playground and bashed her knee on the ground thanks to a see-saw. Luckily it wasn't more serious, but it defiintely caused some discomfort/pain for her and gave us quite a scare. The mountains in October are postcard perfect with their changing leaves.

Fresh mountain air does a body good.

Our apartment is just down the street. Here we are at the start of our hike.

Charlotte said I always want pictures to be perfect. Ha, I'll show her!

The girls when they realised the walk was over.

After a walk in Grächen, a coffee in the sun on the apartment balcony. Happiness!

Storage housing for hay and food in Valais. Apparently it is the only region that does this.

Zermatt

Can you see the Matterhorn? So cool to see it and the town of Zermatt.

Cable car to Furi and then walked down to Zermatt.

We crossed that :)

Checking out the climbing rings

Applestrudel, yum!

Finishing vacation at a playground makes everyone happy :)
